Number banners

Number Banners are palette board constructions, numbered zero to nine; they are practical objects; tools used for the representation of people, objects or different elements of situations. They are made of palette board and are numbered 0 - 9.

Number banners are constructed from wooden pallette board slats.

The on-going use of these numbered banners has increased their importance, they are now objects, characters or elements in their own right.
With the aid of cardboard arrows these tools can be made more animate, they can begin to exist for a non-practical, more selfish purpose, for their own reasons, they are not now exclusively dependent upon the artist to set their purpose, they have developed their own identity.

Why did I choose numbers?

Number banners are tools and highly iconic symbols. Numbers, rather than letters, were chosen as they are most widely understood by people across the world.
Whilst being highly accessible numbers have an anonymity that other symbols do not have; to most of us they are not historically or culturally loaded, this means they have no voice. Letters and cultural symbols are often used in modern culture, numbers are normally used for the exchange of data.

By putting single numbers on these banners I hope to liberate these much over looked numerals (base-10, decimals) to a point where they are able to come alive by assuming poses in various situations.
