Figure-of-eight artwork in the art studio

Figure-of-eight arrow set-up: 10 arrows made of cardboard and painted white.

Figure-of-eight arrow is one of the arrow set-ups created for use with Number Banners.

Like other cardboard arrows this construction gives an added dynamism to objects placed upon it, it gives a chance for the Number banners to live, which otherwise remain lifeless.
Ten arrows make up this facility. These interlocking arrows complete a figure-of-eight eternal cycle. One or more Number banners can be put onto or near this device to create a single or series of movements. The arrows create purpose and motion for the Number Banners that otherwise lack motion and direction. The nature of an arrow set-up effects the style of movement for the Number Banners, which then changes the personality of the Banners. Figure-of-eight arrows are tools - just like the Number Banners, they need a function, without function they lack a context and purpose.

At the VOID gallery exhibition the Figure-of-eight arrow set-up was displayed on one of the gallery walls, along-side the artwork was placed text, written in the stencil letter font>>

In the case of Figure-of-eight arrows the ten arrows can be a reflection of the ten Number banners - not all arrow set-ups contain ten arrows. This arrow set-up looks similar to a Scalextric track. In the child's car game cars race around a track that has metal slots that conduct electricity to toy cars. Although with Scalextric the user determines the speed of movement for the cars, Figure-of-eight-arrow set-up allows the Number banners to travel without user assistance, the arrow set-up infers the Banners movement.
